AccessRoute NYC
Checks whether your whole subway route is step-free before you leave home.
The problem
Subway riders who use wheelchairs, push strollers or can’t use stairs find out about broken elevators too late.
What they built
Enter your start and end station and it checks live MTA data to tell you if the whole route is accessible, with repair times for broken elevators.
How it works
- Pick a start station, an end station and your need: elevator only, or elevator or escalator.
- It pulls the MTA’s live elevator and escalator outage feed and finds the fastest route.
- It checks every station where you board, change trains or exit, and re-routes around blocked stations when it can.
- For each station it shows what’s working, what’s out and when it’s expected back.
